Welcome — from the Spice Island Team
There's a story that's been unfolding in this bay for centuries and we've been lucky enough to share in it. Spice Island Dive Resort is a community-driven Ambon dive resort working toward a sustainable future for the Ambonese people through conservation, education, and marine tourism.

When you dive with us, you become part of what keeps this bay thriving. Your stay directly supports the people who call this island home, while giving you front-row access to world-class macro, critter, and blackwater diving on quiet, uncrowded sites.

You're not a booking number here. You're part of something far bigger than a resort. Come and share the quiet
magic of Ambon with us.

The Signature of Ambon: The Psychedelic Frogfish
Discovered in Ambon Bay in 2008 by our team, the psychedelic frogfish (Histiophryne psychedelica) didn’t just change macro diving world. Much like the historic work of Dr. Pieter Bleeker in the 19th century, this incredible find proved yet again that Ambon holds its rightful place at the top of the macro and critter-diving world. At Spice Island Dive Resort, we build our daily rhythm around these rare encounters. Our guides are specifically trained to locate elusive frogfish and other Ambon critters with the patience and precision underwater photographers need, giving you the best possible opportunity for the shot of a lifetime.
The diving was absolutely superb. I’ve been fortunate to explore world-class dive spots like Lembeh, Alor, and Dauin, but the muck diving in Ambon stands in a league of its own. Every dive revealed an astonishing array of marine life: hairy frogfish, Rhinopias, tiger shrimp, Pom-pom crabs, bumblebee shrimp, harlequin shrimp, flamboyant cuttlefish—the list goes on.

Among the best dives of their lives
We would like to express a big, warm thank you for the wonderful time we had in your dive resort. All your staff, both on land and in the dive boat, were so helpful and assisted us in a very professional way and in a very good atmosphere.

The diving around Ambon is very interesting, and thanks to your skilful dive guides, we were able to photograph a number of fascinating marine critters. We have been to Indonesia every year during the last 15 years, and your well-run dive resort is undoubtedly tempting for another visit in the future. We are very grateful for the memorable time we had with you.

The Spice Island Dive Resort enchants not only with its wonderland of tiny creatures underwater, but also on land... The staff is super attentive and at no time intrusive, rather simply sugar-sweet. With a lot of love and effort, the food is freshly prepared every day. Now that we have visited some destinations that are designated as a muck paradise, such as Lembeh, I have to say quite clearly: For us, Ambon is the better Lembeh! There is nothing you can't find here that the Muck Lover's heart doesn't want.

Hello,
Â
First of all, happy new year 2026!
Â
I would like to thank you for the beautiful stay at Spice Island Resort.
It is very pretty place with great food and excellent diving. Well organized operation with amazing diving spots, that rivals Lembeh strait. I saw many creatures for the very first time - rhinopias for example. They are fascinating.

Once I am in the area, I will surely comeback again.
Â
Thank you!
Rastislav Kovacik,
If you want a quiet and relaxed destination that delivers amazing diving with amazing guides, good accommodation, and great food, and you're a critter-fan, then Ambon is for you! The list of critters we encountered is endless, and we had a checklist of everything that we wanted to see... We saw EVERYTHING. The air-conditioned camera room has cubbies with power sockets, towels, and storage for camera bags. The beds couldn't have been more comfortable, and the meals served in the open-air restaurant on the water's edge were exceptional.
